Supporting Mental Health

Town & Country Housing (TCH) has long recognised the importance of supporting the mental health and wellbeing of its employees. One popular and effective approach is our network of Wellbeing Champions. Through this, named staff can offer support and advice to any colleague who may need some extra help or simply someone to talk to. Kerrina Hook, one of TCH’s five Wellbeing Champions, shares her perspective on the role and its impact:

“I’ve worked at TCH for nearly three years, and I love working here. When I joined I heard of the Wellbeing Champions and I knew straight away that it was something that I would like to be. At that time there were no vacancies, but as soon as one became available, I applied and got the role. It’s always been a passion of mine to be able to help people. Helping others makes me feel happy.

“The roles have been created to support both TCH colleagues and the business. We’re there for anyone with any concerns, not just those related to mental health. We’re here to listen without judgment and help guide people towards the appropriate support they need.

“Some days can be very stressful for people. It’s good for people to know that someone is there just to offload to. They know that they can talk to us about anything and it’s confidential. Our door is always open to anyone who needs us.”

As well as the Wellbeing Champions, TCH also offers a number of initiatives to support colleagues with mental health, such as:

  • Hybrid working
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Mental Health webinars covering different topics, such as men’s health and menopause
  • Volunteer days
