We Heard You! Making Mutual Exchanges Easier

We know moving can be a big decision. That’s why we’re making mutual exchanges smoother and easier based on your feedback!

Put simply, a mutual exchange is where a resident agrees to switch homes with another social housing resident. This can sometimes be the fastest and easiest way to find your next home.

With a mutual exchange you take the property ‘as is’ accepting the home in its current condition.

Based on complaints we’ve received and resident and colleague feedback, we know that there is work to do on improving our mutual exchange process. This is why we’ve set up a review group, made up of TCH staff, to look at improving the service.

Based on all the feedback we’ve received, these are the areas that we’re looking to improve for residents:

  • Clearer guidelines: We’re making it super clear who’s responsible for what when it comes to repairs and improvements in your new home.
  • Smoother process: We’re streamlining the whole process, so less paperwork and hassle for you.
  • Better communication: We’re making sure you have all the info you need, right from the start.
  • Improved inspections: We’re introducing pre-move-in inspections to avoid any surprises.

Combined, we hope that this will mean residents enjoy a faster and easier exchange process, clarity around repairs and improvements, and greater peace of mind when moving into a new home.
