Residents bloom in gardening comp

We were delighted to see that our residents’ gardening skills were rewarded again in this year’s gardening competition.
The competition was open to everyone in Older People’s Services across the Peabody group. This included Town & Country Housing residents from our Extra Care and Independent Living schemes.
Residents could enter one of four categories: Most colourful garden, Best small garden, Best communal garden or Best pots and hanging baskets.
Gardening is clearly a key hobby for TCH residents as they made up 23 of the 40 gardens entering.
And if that’s not impressive enough, TCH residents managed to score a hattrick in the Best Communal Garden category, securing first, second and third place!
Here’s a list of all our winners:
- Rick Stewart, Jane Chatfield, Jane and Ted Jump and Maggie Stevens, St Andrews – 1st in Communal Garden
- Veterans Garden, Lawson House – 2nd in Communal Garden
- Ann Crossman, St Stephens – 3rd in Communal Garden
- Ewa Adamska, Elizabeth Garlick Court – 2nd in Best Pots and Hanging Baskets
- Flat 10, MacDonald Court – 2nd in Most colourful garden
- Julie West, Major Clerk House – 3rd in Best small garden
Stuart Ilsley, TCH’s Director of Operations, visited the winning residents recently to present them with their award. All runners-up received a £50 gardening voucher, while the St Andrews gardeners received a £100 voucher for their first placed Communal Garden.
