Gas and electrical safety checks – what you need to know

As your landlord we have a duty and legal responsibility to look after your home. One of the ways we do this is through regular safety checks to your gas and electricity supplies.

Gas safety checks are carried out once a year by our Gas Safe registered contractors and cover pipework, heating and hot water systems.
Under your tenancy agreement you are responsible for getting your own gas appliances, such as cookers, checked by a Gas Safe registered engineer every year.
However, our contractors will carry out a visual assessment and make a note of any issues on the Landlord’s Gas Safety Record.
Electrical safety checks are carried out every five years. Again, these checks are completed for us by a qualified engineer. A large number of domestic fires are caused by electrical faults, so these checks are a really important way of keeping you safe in your home.
How appointments are made

You’ll receive a letter in the post in advance of the safety check. If you’re not able to be there for the suggested time the letter will explain how you can rearrange the visit.
We know that it can sometimes be inconvenient to be at home for one our engineers, so we really appreciate your help in allowing these checks to take place.
