Carers Week 2025: Caring about equality

Carers Week takes place from 9 to 15 June 2025, and this year’s theme is Caring About Equality – a reminder that unpaid carers of all ages deserve equal opportunities and recognition. Many carers face challenges in education, work or daily life simply because of the responsibilities they carry. Carers Week shines a light on these issues and calls for better support across society.

Someone’s Listening

Kent County Council has been collaborating with unpaid carers and the charity Mending the Gap, which is run by Town & Country Housing resident Chris Jeffrey, to raise awareness and show that Someone’s Listening. You can find out more about the campaign here or view the information pack here.

How we support residents with caring responsibilities

At Town & Country Housing, we understand that being a carer can have a big impact on everyday life – emotionally, financially and practically. That’s why our Tenancy and Money Support team is here to help.

“When we identify someone has a caring role, we’ll support them to engage with other agencies such as the local authority for a carers assessment or referrals to young carers’ services,”
explains Niki Melville, Tenancy & Money Support Manager.

Depending on the circumstances, carers may be entitled to additional support – for example, short breaks for respite, or a care needs assessment for the person they care for. Our team can help with referrals and guide residents through the process to ensure both the carer and the person receiving care get the support they need.

Whether you’re a carer or just want to know what help is available, we’re here to listen and support you. 💙
