Looking after your garden this spring: support and simple options
Related Posts
With warmer weather finally here, many of us are spending more time outdoors. If you have a garden, this can be a good time to tidy it up and make it a safe, pleasant space to relax or spend time with family.
At the same time, we understand that gardening is not always easy. If you’re unable to manage your garden because of a health or mobility issue, our Money Support team may be able to help you access benefits that you can use to pay for a gardener.
Other sources of support

There are a number of organisations and local groups that may be able to offer advice or practical support:
- Age UK offers guidance and, in some areas, gardening support or local services for older residents
- Local charities that support older or vulnerable residents may also be able to help or point you in the right direction, for example: Imago Community, Voluntary Action South West Surrey, Community People
- Your local church or community group can also be a good place to ask. Many have strong local networks and may be able to offer practical help or connect you with volunteers.
If maintaining your garden is becoming too much

If you feel that looking after a garden is no longer manageable, it might be worth thinking about longer-term options. Town & Country Housing has a range of different property types, including Later Living communities, that could better suit your needs- for example, a property without a garden or with shared outdoor space.
