A garden to be proud of: the story behind Tomlin Court’s gardens

At Town & Country Housing, we know that our residents bring much more than just their tenancy to our communities. They bring skills, interests, creativity and dedication that help make our schemes welcoming places to live.
This month, we’d like to shine a spotlight on Peter Osborne, a resident at Tomlin Court in Epsom, whose passion for gardening has transformed the communal outdoor spaces over many years. We recently asked Peter a few questions about his gardening project.
What inspired you to start gardening at Tomlin Court?
“The garden areas needed some attention as they had become rather drab and neglected. I wanted to help brighten up the surroundings and create a more welcoming environment for everyone.”

How long have you been involved in gardening there?
“I have been involved in gardening at Tomlin Court for over 10 years.”
What do you enjoy most about it?
“What I enjoy most is the creativity. As the artist Claude Monet famously said, it’s like ‘painting with flowers’ and I love bringing colour and life into the landscape.”
Have other residents complimented your work or become involved in the gardening project?
“The gardening work seems to be appreciated by both residents and visitors alike. Another resident, Jayne, also contributes by planting the beautiful hanging baskets, which are a lovely addition to the displays.”
A garden enjoyed by the whole community
Looking through the photographs, it’s easy to see the care and attention that Peter and Jayne have put into the gardens over the years. From colourful flower beds and spring daffodils to stunning hanging baskets and beautifully maintained communal areas, their efforts have helped create a space that residents can be proud of.
A huge thank you to Peter and Jayne for everything they do to keep Tomlin Court looking so beautiful. Their dedication shows how a shared passion can brighten not only a garden, but a whole community.
