Gas Safety Week 2026: Take No Chances

This year, Gas Safety Week takes place from 14 to 20 September, bringing organisations across the UK together to share one important message: when it comes to gas safety, Take No Chances.

Now in its 16th year, the annual campaign is organised by the Gas Safe Register and helps raise awareness of the risks linked to unsafe gas appliances, gas leaks and carbon monoxide (CO). It’s also a useful reminder of the simple things we can all do to help keep our homes safe.

What does ‘Take No Chances’ mean?

Gas appliances that aren’t working properly can cause gas leaks, fires or carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide is particularly dangerous because you can’t see, smell or taste it.

That’s why it’s important not to ignore something that doesn’t seem right. If an appliance isn’t working as expected, your carbon monoxide alarm sounds, or you have any other concerns about gas safety in your home, please let us know.

How we help keep your home safe

As your landlord, we carry out a gas safety check every year in homes with gas appliances. The check helps make sure there are no gas or carbon monoxide leaks from your boiler, and our engineers also visually check gas cookers and gas fires.

Our gas services contractor will contact you when your annual check is due to arrange an appointment. The check usually takes around 45 minutes, and someone aged 18 or over needs to be at home throughout the appointment.

All checks are carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers, who will show their ID before entering your home.

If we contact you to arrange your annual gas safety check, please help us by keeping your appointment or letting us know as soon as possible if you need to rearrange it.

A few simple ways you can help

Gas safety is something we can all play a part in. You can help by:

  • Letting us know about problems early rather than waiting to see if they get worse.
  • Never trying to repair a gas appliance yourself.
  • Keeping your gas safety appointment when your annual check is due.
  • Checking your carbon monoxide alarm and telling us if it isn’t working.
  • Asking to see an engineer’s Gas Safe ID card if you would like reassurance before letting them into your home.
